SUMMARY:Book Club — Jack
DESCRIPTION:In March\, the Primrose Hill Community Library Book Club will d
iscuss Jack by Marilynne Robinson.\n\nMarilynne Robinson\, winner of the P
ulitzer Prize and the American National Humanities Medal\, returns to the
world of Gilead with Jack\, the final in one of the great works of conte
mporary American fiction.\n\nJack tells the story of John Ames Boughton\,
the loved and grieved-over prodigal son of a Presbyterian minister in Gil
 ead\, Iowa\, a drunkard and a ne'er-do-well. In segregated St. Louis somet
ime after World War II\, Jack falls in love with Della Miles\, an African-
 American high school teacher\, also a preacher's child\, with a discrimina
ting mind\, a generous spirit and an independent will. Their fraught\, bea
utiful story is one of Robinson's greatest achievements.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nb
