Step back into the glitter and charm of 1930s Hollywood with My Man Godfrey, a sparkling romantic comedy directed by Gregory La Cava that balances sharp humour with a surprisingly heartfelt look at class and compassion in Depression-era America.

The film begins when two wealthy sisters, out on a frivolous scavenger hunt, encounter Godfrey, a “forgotten man” living on the margins, played by William Powell with quiet dignity and wit. Impressed by his intelligence, the younger sister Irene, portrayed by Carole Lombard, hires him as the family’s new butler, setting in motion a series of comic and revealing encounters that expose both the absurdities and vulnerabilities of high society.

Stylish, funny and deeply humane, My Man Godfrey uses laughter to shine a light on privilege, generosity and the value of kindness in difficult times.
