Experience a powerful and deeply personal animated film with Persepolis, based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi and co-directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud. Told through striking black-and-white animation, the film offers an intimate perspective on history, identity and resistance, seen through the eyes of a young girl growing up during times of profound political change.
The story follows Marjane, voiced by Chiara Mastroianni, as she comes of age in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution. Alongside her are voices from an exceptional cast, including Catherine Deneuveas Marjane’s mother, Danielle Darrieux as her grandmother, and Sean Penn and Iggy Pop in supporting roles. Through childhood, adolescence and exile, Marjane navigates family, rebellion and belonging while questioning the forces that seek to define her.
Both personal memoir and political portrait, Persepolis demonstrates the unique power of animation to tell complex, human stories. It is a moving exploration of freedom, memory and the courage to remain oneself in a changing world.
