Talk by Dr Michael Montemurro – Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours (GIST)

Few diseases have changed cancer medicine as profoundly as GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour). Once a largely untreatable cancer, it became one of the first great success stories of precision medicine and a model for understanding how cancer works and how “magic bullet” treatments can change lives.

Dr Michael Montemurro works with the Sarcoma Team at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), is Chair of Medical Oncology at the Genolier Cancer Centre in Switzerland, and is a co-author of the European GIST Guidelines and co-founder of GIST Group Switzerland (www.gist.ch).

He enjoys making complex science understandable and explaining his hobby, GIST, in a clear and accessible way. No medical knowledge is required.
