Author Talk: Out of the Shadows

Come and listen to the extraordinary life of Regency artist Maria Cosway, compellingly narrated and illustrated by local author Diane Boucher.

Maria Cosway was talented and successful enough to exhibit 42 paintings at the Royal Academy summer exhibition between 1781 and 1801. She mixed in social circles with Thomas Jefferson, the Prince of Wales, the artist Jacques-Louis David, the opera singer Luigi Marchesi, the Duchess of Devonshire, the actress and writer Mary Robinson, and members of the Bonaparte family. Finally estranged from her husband by 1801, Maria Cosway reinvented herself as a progressive educator, founding schools for young women, in Lyon and in Lodi, Italy.
